Meet the Artist
Cynthia Shumaker’s watercolors burst with an uncommon freshness and joy. Her command of
shape, color, and light invigorate a wide range of subject materials from florals and landscapes to architecture. Emotionally, her paintings embrace an arc of feeling that runs from the delicate to the dramatic. In her still life work and in her airy florals, play of light and dark lend weight to her overall vision.
Cynthia moved from Detroit in 2007 to Annapolis. She is a member of the Annapolis Watercolor Club and the Maryland Federation of Art. Previously she painted scenes of the Great Lakes, Florida and Europe. She received a B.A. from Hillsdale College and earned a Masters Degree in Art Therapy from Wayne State University in Detroit. Her work has been included in many well known juried shows throughout southeast Michigan, as well as, the Circle Gallery at The Maryland Federation of Art, Maryland Hall, and her own solo shows in Annapolis.
